Roche Park



Roche Park has been in existence since 1970.

The property was once owned by Mr. & Mrs. Roche. At a Township meeting in November 1969, Mrs. Viola Roche announced that she and her husband desired to donate 10 to 20 acres for their land to Vernon Township for recreation purposes.

Located on Patricia Drive, Roche Park has grown as fast as the Township itself has grown. The park has five pavilions, four ball fields, a basketball court, volleyball net, horseshoe pits, a full playground area, and two restroom facilities.

Surrounding the park is a paved fitness trail which is approximately one mile.

The pavilions are for public use, and are also available for rental. 10am-10pm.

Bob Davis Area



Dedication of the Bob Davis Area took place on September 29, 2017 at Roche Park. Pictured above are family members Scott Davis, Cynthia and Richard Novotny, Marian Davis, Michael, Tammy and Robert Grasso, Senator Michele Brooks and Debbie Davis. Further additions to this area will include a Indian statue along with a kiosk telling the story of the Indians which called this area home. A THANK YOU to all who donated to the Memorial Fund and made this possible, and a special thank you to Sunset Memorials, Powell Sanitation and Larry Kebert.

Kerrtown Community Center and Playground

Located on Hope Street in the Kerrtown area of Vernon Townsihip, the Kerrtown Community Center is run by the Vernon Township Recreation and Development Association. The VRDA runs Bingo every Tuesday evening and rents the center for wedding receptions and parties. The telephone number at the Center is (814) 333-4520 for additional information.

The Playground at the Center contains a basketball court and playground equipment for enjoyment of children of all ages.

Lincoln Avenue Sports Complex

Located at the intersection of Rogers Ferry Road and Lincoln Avenue in the Fifth Ward, this area features a new playground and improved swing set. The 4 existing softball field received new backstops and infields improvements in 2009. A proposed handicap accessable trailway is scheduled for construction in the Spring 2010 with scenic views of French Creek, and access to the fields, restrooms and concession stand.

Mary Gable Community Park of Vernon Township

Located on Park Row in the Kerrtown section of Vernon Township, the Mary Gable Community Park is designed to allow recreational activities on a large field while maintaining conservation principles along French Creek. The Little Griders Football Program uses the field for practice sessions in the fall. Access to French Creek in available to launch boats and fish.

FAQ

Burning permits are now being issued through Vernon Township Municipal Building.

You must obtain a permit if you are planning any open burning – the permit does not allow for burning of anything except for wood products, you can not burn any furniture, garbage, or any other materials. If you burn any other materials, the police maybe called and you will not be able to obtain a future permit.

Starting with the first quarter of 2012. Berkheimer Associates will be collecting the local 1% wage tax for the businesses located in Vernon Township. Quarterly forms are available at www.hab-inc.com.

Call the Township Secretary at 814-337-8126. The shelter may be reserved over the telephone and payment made later. Shelter 1, 2, 3, and 4 are $50.00 and Shelter #5 is $90.00.
